Mr. Thompson is from Fayetteville, NC and currently works as a teacher at Southern School of Energy and Sustainability. He teaches math and enjoys seeing his students’ progress in their studies. Thompson received his Bachelor’s degree in Math and Physics from North Carolina Central University and has to return to school for his Master’s in Engineering. Thompson has always helped people with math as long as he can remember. He tutored professionally for 6 years, and volunteers at a local church by tutoring youth.
Ms. Smith is from Georgia where she earned her BS in Mathematics. She moved to South Carolina and achieved her MAT in Middle Level Mathematics Education with teaching license. While in school, she tutored mainly mathematics and ACT/SAT Test prep for a corporate company for 10 years in Georgia & both Carolinas. She taught middle and high school in Spartanburg County, SC for 5 years. She now lives in North Carolina and is currently obtaining her PhD in Learning and Teaching in STEM Education with a focus on Mathematics & Statistics Education at North Carolina State University. She is projected to graduate May 2020!
Ms. Braxton was born and raised in Raleigh, NC. She graduated from Leesville Road High and attended NC Central University. She earned a B.S. in Mathematics and Secondary Education. She currently teaches at Knightdale High School where she serves as the Math 2 PLT lead and a Senior Champion to encourage and advocate for at risk students of the Senior Class. Her passion is building healthy, long-lasting relationships with students while igniting the love of learning. She believes that everyone should live on purpose by expanding their horizons and stepping outside of their comfort zone. Taylor loves watching HGTV, going to/watching football games, and Sunday dinners with family. She loves to create budgets and her favorite food is macaroni and cheese.
Mrs. Moody was a high school mathematics teacher at J.D. Clement Early College High School. Before she began her journey teaching she received her Bachelors of Science in Mathematics at North Carolina Central University. While attending NCCU, she had the opportunity to tutor various college math courses and teach 8th grade math through a non-profit organization, Student U. She is recently married and enjoys being a stay-at-home mom to her baby girl and Shih Tzu.
Ms. Midder was raised in Virginia Beach, VA and has been an honor student for the duration of her academic career. She began her career as a tutor as early as fifth grade and continued tutoring while she was in college. She has always had a knack for problem-solving and numbers as well as a heart for people and serving. She enjoys teaching Algebra and Accounting.
Ms. Adams was born and raised in Durham, NC. She is in her 8th year of teaching Mathematics. She has taught at both the middle and high school level. She is currently teaching Math 8 and Math 1 at Rogers-Herr Middle School. Adams received her Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Averett University, and her Master’s in K-12 Studies Curriculum from Capella University. In addition to teaching, she also coaches multiple sports to help continuously build positive relationships with students. She enjoys teaching and working with young people to help them reach their full potential.
Mrs. Long was raised in Durham, NC. She graduated from Hillside High School, and attended UNC-Charlotte where she received a BA Degree in Mathematics with Secondary Certification. Mrs. Long has been teaching mathematics for 20+ years. She has teaching and/or tutoring experience ranging from 2nd grade math through precalculus. Mrs. Long enjoys spending time with family and friends, and working with students to help them realize their full potential.
Mr. Myung was born and raised in Cary, NC and attended Green Hope High School. He is currently a third-year student at North Carolina State University and is majoring in Biological Sciences with a Human Biology Concentration and minor in Sports Science. He is a pre-medical student that has a passion for education and proven abilities in understanding complex science and math material. He enjoys playing basketball and lifting weights to help balance out his academic life. Overall, he is a hard-working student that loves working with children and helping them reach their maximum potential.
Ms. Long is a scholar with a Master's in Environmental Engineering and City and Regional Planning. She is passionate about collaborative learning, and teaching. Ms. Long's study of water quality and access to clean drinking water has afforded her the opportunity to live in Central America, India, and well as travel West Africa, and South America. She enjoys studying languages, math, science, and reading.
Ms. Smith graduated with a B. S. in Biochemistry and minor in Chinese Studies. In both high school and college, she gained a wide variety of experience in tutoring and mentoring. Throughout college, she cultivated an appreciation for diverse and enriching teaching methods in the STEM field. As a teaching assistant, she utilized both lecture and problem solving lectures to give students ample time to practice the material. For three years, she was an undergraduate teaching assistant for several upper level business courses in which she was responsible for evaluating homework, tests, and field work to ensure students understood course concepts. She is currently working toward her PhD in Pathobiology and translational sciences from UNC Chapel Hill. Her thesis work focuses on understanding genomics to infer clinical outcomes for breast cancer patients, with an emphasis on racial disparities.
Mrs. White is currently in her 14th year of teaching, with the last 6 with Durham Public Schools at Hillside High School. She earned her Bachelor's Degree from Bowling Green State University (Ohio) and is licensed as a highly qualified teacher in grades 6-12. She has served in various positions in her years in education including coach, curriculum development and mapping, mentor teacher, co-chair of PCS Freshman Academy, and Yearbook adviser. She has also led various professional development sessions on End of Course (EOC) Best Practices and Co-teaching with Exceptional Children. She is married and has three human children and 5 furry children. She enjoys spending time with her husband and reading.
Mr. Tindley was born and raised on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and currently teaches at Rogers-Herr Middle School in Durham, NC. He received his Bachelor's degree in social studies secondary education from the University of Maryland College Park and has been teaching for 13 years. In addition to Durham Public Schools, he has taught in Prince George's County Schools as well as DC Public Charter Schools. He is passionate about teaching and enjoys listening to music and watching sports in his spare time.
Mr. Michael I. Gosman is a graduate of McDaniel University (in English and Education). He did PhD work at Indiana University, and has also completed programs at the National Shakespeare Conservatory and the Folger Shakespeare Library, as well as coursework from Stanford, Harvard, and Georgetown. He has nearly twenty years of high school and middle school classroom teaching experience in the USA, plus nearly ten years of university, college, and junior college classroom teaching experience in Japan. He has won numerous local, state, and several national awards for excellence and innovation in teaching, including a “Special Commendation” from the Maryland’s Department of Education. In his free time, as “Micheal Akutagawa”, he is a radio DJ at WXDU 88.7 FM (Duke University) and the curator of the station’s weekly jazz program. He also reads and performs his own creative work onstage and at area Open Mics.
Ms. Herndon holds a Bachelor of Arts from Wells College in Sociology, another in Human Communications from the State of New York (SUNY) Oswego State, and a Master of Science in Student Personnel Administration from SUNY Buffalo State. She has a passion for technology, literacy, curriculum development and education, and searches for opportunities that permit the innovation and fusion of both. To that credit, she completed a Microsoft Digital Literacy in 2017 and teaches coding languages courses. Ms. Herndon also became a 2nd generation Literacy Volunteer back in her home state of NY, when she earned her certification in combined Basic Language and ESOL, as her Mom was the 1st. She is thrilled to be rejoining the M & M talented team since serving the Fall 2016- Spring 2017 terms and is enthusiastic to act as a resource to the local community. When she’s not in "teach mode", Ms. Raven can be found writing poetry, making meme’s, practicing yoga, scheming on a beach trip, chasing sunsets and talking to her loving and supportive parents on the phone.
Ms. Valentine was born and raised in Northeastern North Carolina and received her Bachelors of Arts in Sociology from North Carolina State University. While in college she worked with various schools and after school programs in the Wake County area tutoring youth and serving as a mentor. She believes in the unique purpose of each child and hopes to help develop their passions, potential and confidence through education. She currently works with expectant mothers and young children as a Clinical Research Assistant. When not at work she enjoys cooking/baking, drawing, watching cartoons, listening to music and exploring nature.
Mr. Doub is a native from Winston-Salem, NC, and currently resides in Whitsett, NC. He has been employed at Laboratory Corporation of America as a Lab Technologist since 2011. He received his BS in Chemistry & minor in Mathematics from Appalachian State University and is a member of the American Chemical Society & Troop 942 Eagle scouts. He has two years of experience in tutoring that range from Algebra I to Calculus to General Chemistry. Andrew has a strong passion for all sports, was an all-conference track & cross country runner in high school & loves to sing whenever given the chance. He loves all sciences, especially Chemistry and Mathematics. He hopes to seek a Masters/PhD in Chemistry and teach at the collegiate level sometime in the future.
Ms. Curry-Chisolm is in her fourth year at North Carolina Central University studying Biology and Family and Consumer Science with concentrations in Pre-medicine,Child Development, and Family Relations. She will graduate in May 2018 with degrees in both fields. She conducts research at the United States Environmental Protection Agency, and has been a teaching assistant at North Carolina Central University for over 3 years. She is a focused and dedicated young woman with a passion for education, and the skills to help relay that knowledge.
Mr. Tillies, aka “Professor T”, is an educator by trade with 15 years of college classroom teaching experience and three decades as a mathematics tutor. He holds a Master of Science degree in Education and a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, both from Radford University in Virginia. Richard is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., as well as several academic honor societies in his field. "Professor T" currently teaches computer programming at Durham Technical Community College, and serves as Head Trainer at 9Round Triangle NC, a Kickboxing Fitness studio in Raleigh, NC.
Ms. Smith has been teaching with Durham Public Schools since 2011. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from UNC Chapel Hill and a Masters in Teaching from Duke University. Her leadership roles include being the English Department Chair, a Beginning Teacher Mentor, and the Upward Bound High School Coordinator. She has served as a Durham Public Schools district review instructor for the ACT, English II EOC, and AP English Literature and Composition exam. In addition to having served as a Senior Class and National Honor Society advisor at her school, she has also served as a curriculum writer for English III and English IV Unit Roadmaps provided to Durham Public School teachers and as a mentor in the Duke MAT Program. In the 2016-2017 school year she was recognized as a Durham Public Schools District Semi-Finalist for teacher of the year.
Ms. Bufford is originally from Birmingham Alabama were she earned a BS in Health Information Management from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and an MA in Business Executive Leadership from Christian Brothers University in Memphis. She has worked in the pharmaceutical research and development industry for the past 17 years as a Project Data Manager. LaTonya also served as the president of Toastmasters International of the southern region for her former employer Medtronic in Memphis Tennessee. While serving as the president she earned her Competent Communicator certificate. In her current role as Senior, Manager in Data Management; she has presented both nationally and internationally and enjoys meeting new people and helping them overcome their fear of speaking in public.
