Ms. Anjanette Wiggins
Mr. Thompson is from Fayetteville, NC and currently works as a teacher at Southern School of Energy and Sustainability. He teaches math and enjoys seeing his students’ progress in their studies. Thompson received his Bachelor’s degree in Math and Physics from North Carolina Central University and has to return to school for his Master’s in Engineering. Thompson has always helped people with math as long as he can remember. He tutored professionally for 6 years, and volunteers at a local church by tutoring youth.
Ms. Outlaw is currently a medical scribe at Durham Family Medicine. She is an alumna of North Carolina Central University where she received a B.S. in Pharmaceutical Sciences with a minor in Chemistry. During her undergraduate studies, she was inducted as a member of Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society, in addition to the Golden Key International Honour Society where she served on the executive board during the 2014-2015 school year. Janie also graduated from NC State University where she earned an M.S. in Food Science with a minor in Food Safety. For her graduate work, Janie focused on designing an assay to create a sensitive and rapid detection method for norovirus. She is a kind, welcoming person who will challenge and enhance students' overall academics.
Ms. Smith is from Georgia where she earned her BS in Mathematics. She moved to South Carolina and achieved her MAT in Middle Level Mathematics Education with teaching license. While in school, she tutored mainly mathematics and ACT/SAT Test prep for a corporate company for 10 years in Georgia & both Carolinas. She taught middle and high school in Spartanburg County, SC for 5 years. She now lives in North Carolina and is currently obtaining her PhD in Learning and Teaching in STEM Education with a focus on Mathematics & Statistics Education at North Carolina State University. She is projected to graduate May 2020!
Ms. Braxton was born and raised in Raleigh, NC. She graduated from Leesville Road High and attended NC Central University. She earned a B.S. in Mathematics and Secondary Education. She currently teaches at Knightdale High School where she serves as the Math 2 PLT lead and a Senior Champion to encourage and advocate for at risk students of the Senior Class. Her passion is building healthy, long-lasting relationships with students while igniting the love of learning. She believes that everyone should live on purpose by expanding their horizons and stepping outside of their comfort zone. Taylor loves watching HGTV, going to/watching football games, and Sunday dinners with family. She loves to create budgets and her favorite food is macaroni and cheese.
Ms. Hendley is originally from Savannah, GA, but grew up in Tampa, FL. She received her B.S. in Applied and Computational Mathematics from Florida State University and is currently working on her M.A. in Analytical Political Economy at Duke University. Rated Highly Effective and identified as a high Impact teacher by the Florida Department of Education, she taught AP Statistics, Trigonometry, Advanced Functions and Modeling, Algebra 1 (Honors), Geometry Honors, Math Analysis, Advanced Topics in Mathematics and Analytic Geometry throughout her four-year career as a high school math teacher. She also tutors college Calculus. She is also involved in the Women and Mathematics Mentoring Program.
Mrs. Moody was a high school mathematics teacher at J.D. Clement Early College High School. Before she began her journey teaching she received her Bachelors of Science in Mathematics at North Carolina Central University. While attending NCCU, she had the opportunity to tutor various college math courses and teach 8th grade math through a non-profit organization, Student U. She is recently married and enjoys being a stay-at-home mom to her baby girl and Shih Tzu.
Ms. Midder was raised in Virginia Beach, VA and has been an honor student for the duration of her academic career. She began her career as a tutor as early as fifth grade and continued tutoring while she was in college. She has always had a knack for problem-solving and numbers as well as a heart for people and serving. She enjoys teaching Algebra and Accounting.
Mrs. Joy Epps is from Selma, NC, but has resided in Durham since 2013. She is currently a Team Lead at Wells Fargo. She taught math in Durham Public Schools at both the middle and high school levels. She graduated from North Carolina Central University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Mathematics and a Minor in Business. She has always been passionate about helping others and building relationships. Joy loves to shop, spend time with family, and travel.
Ms. Tamba is an Assistant Vice President in the Investment Bank & Capital Markets division at Credit Suisse. She is originally from North Chesterfield County, Virginia and moved to North Carolina to enroll at North Carolina Central University. She graduated with a Bachelor in Business Administration and concentration in Finance in 2009. In the spring of 2017, she completed her Master in Business Administration from North Carolina State University. Her hobbies include traveling, gardening, exercising, working with youth, and fishing.
Ms. Brinson is currently a first year student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She’s majoring in Neuroscience and is passionate about science and math. She’s from Jacksonville, NC but spent the last two years of high school at the North Carolina School of Science of Mathematics. She’s always had a knack for analytical thinking and loves building relationships. In her free time, she enjoys running, spending time with friends and drawing.
Ms. Adams was born and raised in Durham, NC. She is in her 8th year of teaching Mathematics. She has taught at both the middle and high school level. She is currently teaching Math 8 and Math 1 at Rogers-Herr Middle School. Adams received her Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Averett University, and her Master’s in K-12 Studies Curriculum from Capella University. In addition to teaching, she also coaches multiple sports to help continuously build positive relationships with students. She enjoys teaching and working with young people to help them reach their full potential.
Ms. Ajaero is from from Charlotte, North Carolina. After obtaining an Associate of Science degree she transferred to North Carolina Central in pursuit of a Bachelor's in Nursing in which she received December 2018. She began tutoring as a volunteer during her sophomore year and worked with various organizations as a mentor and tutor for students. Through this experience, she met many students and families who motivated and inspired her to be more involved in education in various capacities. Witnessing students grow and become more confident in themselves and their skills has made her journey even more amazing.
Mrs. White is currently in her 14th year of teaching, with the last 6 with Durham Public Schools at Hillside High School. She earned her Bachelor's Degree from Bowling Green State University (Ohio) and is licensed as a highly qualified teacher in grades 6-12. She has served in various positions in her years in education including coach, curriculum development and mapping, mentor teacher, co-chair of PCS Freshman Academy, and Yearbook adviser. She has also led various professional development sessions on End of Course (EOC) Best Practices and Co-teaching with Exceptional Children. She is married and has three human children and 5 furry children. She enjoys spending time with her husband and reading.
Mrs. Neal is a native of Durham, NC and currently resides in Person County. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Community Health Education. Mrs. Neal is licensed as a K-6 highly qualified teacher receiving her credentials from North Carolina Central University, and holds a Master of Public Administration degree from North Carolina Central University. She enjoys teaching and has over 20 years of teaching experience ranging from Pre-K - Community college. She also teaches youth bible study and Sunday school at her church and has edited a children's Christian book. Mrs. Neal is married and has two daughters.
Ms. Revelle is a Public Health Practitioner and a Nationally Certified Health Education Specialist and is committed to uplifting the community through helping children, teens and adults enhance their education. She is skilled in teaching, coaching, training, facilitating and tutoring. With her years of public health service, she stands ready to provide expertise, leadership and guidance as a tutor at M&M Tutoring Service.
Mr. Tindley was born and raised on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and currently teaches at Rogers-Herr Middle School in Durham, NC. He received his Bachelor's degree in social studies secondary education from the University of Maryland College Park and has been teaching for 13 years. In addition to Durham Public Schools, he has taught in Prince George's County Schools as well as DC Public Charter Schools. He is passionate about teaching and enjoys listening to music and watching sports in his spare time.
Mr. Michael I. Gosman is a graduate of McDaniel University (in English and Education). He did PhD work at Indiana University, and has also completed programs at the National Shakespeare Conservatory and the Folger Shakespeare Library, as well as coursework from Stanford, Harvard, and Georgetown. He has nearly twenty years of high school and middle school classroom teaching experience in the USA, plus nearly ten years of university, college, and junior college classroom teaching experience in Japan. He has won numerous local, state, and several national awards for excellence and innovation in teaching, including a “Special Commendation” from the Maryland’s Department of Education. In his free time, as “Micheal Akutagawa”, he is a radio DJ at WXDU 88.7 FM (Duke University) and the curator of the station’s weekly jazz program. He also reads and performs his own creative work onstage and at area Open Mics.
Mr. Doub is a native from Winston-Salem, NC, and currently resides in Whitsett, NC. He has been employed at Laboratory Corporation of America as a Lab Technologist since 2011. He received his BS in Chemistry & minor in Mathematics from Appalachian State University and is a member of the American Chemical Society & Troop 942 Eagle scouts. He has two years of experience in tutoring that range from Algebra I to Calculus to General Chemistry. Andrew has a strong passion for all sports, was an all-conference track & cross country runner in high school & loves to sing whenever given the chance. He loves all sciences, especially Chemistry and Mathematics. He hopes to seek a Masters/PhD in Chemistry and teach at the collegiate level sometime in the future.
Ms. Curry-Chisolm is in her fourth year at North Carolina Central University studying Biology and Family and Consumer Science with concentrations in Pre-medicine,Child Development, and Family Relations. She will graduate in May 2018 with degrees in both fields. She conducts research at the United States Environmental Protection Agency, and has been a teaching assistant at North Carolina Central University for over 3 years. She is a focused and dedicated young woman with a passion for education, and the skills to help relay that knowledge.
Ms. Smith is a North Carolina native who attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for B.A. degrees in Spanish Language and Linguistics. She returned to UNC at Chapel Hill for her Master of Arts in Teaching degree and received her professional teaching license for Spanish and ESL, K-12. She taught and tutored high school Spanish for several years and currently works as an Education Project Manager in Durham. Her passions include creating authentic and inspiring language experiences for her students. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, exercising, baking, and spending time with her family and puppy.
Ms. Hemphill graduated summa cum laude from Duke University in 2015, where she studied Literature and African & African American Studies. She spent a year of her post graduate time as a college adviser. During that time, she helped students complete college and financial aid applications as well as tutored them for the ACT/SAT and in various subject areas. She is passionate about English, reading, and the social sciences; however, she enjoys tutoring students in arithmetic, Pre-Algebra, and Algebra I/II.
Mr. Tillies, aka “Professor T”, is an educator by trade with 15 years of college classroom teaching experience and three decades as a mathematics tutor. He holds a Master of Science degree in Education and a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, both from Radford University in Virginia. Richard is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., as well as several academic honor societies in his field. "Professor T" currently teaches computer programming at Durham Technical Community College, and serves as Head Trainer at 9Round Triangle NC, a Kickboxing Fitness studio in Raleigh, NC.
Ms. Smith has been teaching with Durham Public Schools since 2011. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from UNC Chapel Hill and a Masters in Teaching from Duke University. Her leadership roles include being the English Department Chair, a Beginning Teacher Mentor, and the Upward Bound High School Coordinator. She has served as a Durham Public Schools district review instructor for the ACT, English II EOC, and AP English Literature and Composition exam. In addition to having served as a Senior Class and National Honor Society advisor at her school, she has also served as a curriculum writer for English III and English IV Unit Roadmaps provided to Durham Public School teachers and as a mentor in the Duke MAT Program. In the 2016-2017 school year she was recognized as a Durham Public Schools District Semi-Finalist for teacher of the year.
Ms. Wiggins is an educator with 20+ years of experience. She is the partial product of Durham Public Schools, having moved to Durham in the early 1980’s and completing eighth grade through high school at the top of her class. Ms. Wiggins is a proud alumnus of Tuskegee University with degrees in Electrical Engineering and Physics. Ms. Wiggins always had a passion for working with youth, and decided to embark on a journey to teach after working for 6 years in engineering with various corporations. She began her teaching career in Florida, eventually relocating back home to North Carolina to complete her teaching credentials at North Carolina Central University. Ms. Wiggins has taught numerous courses from varying levels of math through honors/AP/IB, science, reading, and SAT/ACT test prep to middle and high school students. Ms. Wiggins truly believes that “children are the future. Teach them well and let them lead the way.”
